About <<Not recorded>>- the expected result is populated in MTM. But still it comes as not recorded for some test cases.

Yes, same place. It's now 1.1
About <<Not recorded>>- the expected result is populated in MTM. But still it comes as not recorded for some test cases.
The code looks at the length of the string in the expected results field and if it is 0 then it will print out <<Not Recorded>>. So it should work. Can you try it again?

I just downloaded Test Case Extractor which seems like a great tool and I was able to successfully connect to my TFS server, but whenever I attempt to select a Test Plan from the "Select a Test Plan" dropdown (which is populated with all the Test Plans from MTM), Test Case Extractor crashes and I get a message stating "Test_Case_Extractor has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I am not a developer so the solution to make it work in TFS 2012 is not one I am sure I can accomplish. Can you please detail about swapping out the reference to make it work? Or do you know if anyone has made this coded for TFS 2012?

Any details or help is appreciated.

All the cells in the columns Action and Expected Result shows the above format but not

I hope I can get some help about this issue.

I also have the same problem. Here is the python-script solving formating problem
https://github.com/s1ider/tfs-export-parser/blob/master/parse_tfs.py
Put the resulted excel-file with the wrong "steps" column to the folder with the script, check if the name of the input excel-file correspond to that in the script and run it.

Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - Tool does not appear to work with TFS2013. After connecting to TFS 2013 and specifying a location for the Excel file, when you then attempt to select test plan, you get an error "Test_Case_Extractor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly."

I just downloaded Test Case Extractor to my machine.
I extracted the files and tried to run the executable file but get a popup saying " Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact Application Vendor for assistance".

Also, would this tool work for TFS 2013 ?

Hey there!

I found simple solution how to fix crash after Test Plan selection. I have succefully tested it on my win 10, and win 2008 -r2.

NOTE
This solution may help you only if you have something like this:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in Microsoft.TeamFoundation.TestManagement.Client.dll
Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Steps to fix:
  • In test case extrator's folder create .config file with name "Test_Case_Extractor.exe.config"
    It should look like this.
    Image
  • Open Test_Case_Extractor.exe.config with notepad and copy this code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
    <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
        <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.0" />
    </startup>
</configuration>
  • Click Save
  • Run Test Case Extractor
  • Extract !
PS. I want to thank mzboray for the solution. Found it here: LINK

PPS This line is not necessary.
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.0" />
The main magic is in useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy attribute. LINK

Hope it helps you too. Good luck !

I am working with TFS 2013. Tool is working fine with test suites having small test cases however it is taking too much time (9-10 hours) for test suites having more than 800 test cases . Is there any way through which this time can be reduced?Would be great if anyone can share some thoughts on it.
